Best New Internet Games 2011

I have a confession to make. I may be an online game addict. Some days I feel totally powerless over my desire to check out what’s new at Armor Games, Addicting Games, or one of a dozen other online game sites.

To cover up my obsession with Internet games, I recently started using the Lockfox privacy browser. Sure, it’s great that I can surf anonymously and escape my company’s firewalls, but I mostly use it to cover up just how much time I spend playing online games.

If you want to know what the best Internet games of 2011 are, you’ve come to the right source. I’ve played them all, from new chapters of bizarro turn-based RPG Flagstaff to indie games and the new Battlestar Galactica MMORPG. Here’s a quick breakdown of the best new online games this year.

My favorite new puzzle game of 2011 is Red Menace 2. Yes, its a sequel, so there’s nothing totally new and mind blowing about it, but Red Menace was my favorite puzzle game last year, so I welcome a new edition. In Red Menace, you influence gravity and the surroundings of the game to “rescue” a red icon. More and more, I’m drawn to simple games like this rather than complex RPGs or action games.

Speaking of RPGs, my favorite this year from that storied genre has to be the fourth chapter of Flagstaff. The game is a simple turn-based dungeon crawler with very little personalization, but the writing is funny and unique and the game is easy enough to play as a distraction from real work.

Mega Miner, by indie game producer alillm, is a departure from their standard low-budget online game look. This one’s a strategy game where you operate a mining vehicle and try to collect underground resources for cash. You have to play it to believe how addictive it is.

I worked out that I spend at least ten hours a week on my favorite online games. May not sound like much, but ask my boss for some perspective on how I should be spending those forty hours a month.
