Why You Should Collect Your Customers’ Business Cards
Collecting your customers’ business cards is a good business strategy for multiple reasons. For one thing, they usually have your customers’ contact information. That means you can periodically follow up with them to see if they’re interested in any of the new products or offerings you have.
For another thing, you might need some of the services your customers offer. Here’s an example. I own a bookstore. Every two weeks, a man comes in and buys a new Stephen King novel. He’s a plumber. Next time I need plumbing work done, I’m calling him.
Why?
Goodwill.
If I spend my money with him, he’ll be more likely to spend more money with me. And it’s just courteous. Since he’s such a regular customer, he’s one of the reasons I have money to hire a plumber in the first places.
How do you collect your customers’ business cards?
Have a fishbowl in the front of your store, and hold a monthly drawing for something free. If you own a restaurant, give away a free lunch once a month. Or even weekly. People will leave their business cards for you.
Go to the Chamber of Commerce meetings. Those people LOVE to buy stuff from other Chamber of Commerce members. You’ll wind up with a huge collection of business cards from them.
And don’t forget to pass out YOUR business cards while you’re at it.
